Treading Gently has a range of personal care products that are natural, effective and safe to use every day.
Many of the personal care products available on the shelves today have unnecessary chemicals and synthetic ingredients to make the product look or smell a particular way. Usually these ingredients have very little to do with the job at hand. The role of hair shampoo and conditioner is that it must clean well, rinse out easily, impart gloss to the hair, minimize tangle and not damage the hair structure, scalp or eyes.
We believe we have created products that are good for you and good for the environment. Customers who make use of our innovative refilling service can reduce their footprint even further.
It takes almost 4 litres of water to manufacture a bottle to hold 600 mls. So, if you could reuse your bottles 10 times, that would equate to 40 litres of water saved. This is in addition to the raw materials (1 litre plastic bottle contains approx. 125 mls of oil) and the reduction in energy used to generate production and transport this bottle to you!
As we started to investigate further and look closely at the products on the shelves, we were amazed to see how many products are manufactured in Asia and shipped to us here. This is a product that we use on a daily basis. It doesn’t make sense to be shipping enormous quantities of these products. We do need to consider the global miles goods are travelling and the consumption of fuels etc. to get that product distributed and into our households.
The concept behind Treading Gently is very simple. To the company who developed this special formula the brief was clear. We wanted the best natural shampoo and conditioner product on the market. We also wanted the product delivered to us in buckets that have a tap (like a wine cask) so that we could refill bottles. These buckets are returned to our supplier for cleaning and refilling and reused again. The cycle goes on. The product is made here in Australia. The plastic bottles are also made here and are a PET plastic, category 1 – and are therefore able to be recycled by all council and municipalities.
Each customer receives their own named or coded bottle and a named Treading Gently bag. These bottles, when empty need to be rinsed out and returned in the bag for refilling. Treading Gently will ensure the bottles are free of contaminants by using an alcohol based solution to rinse out. The bottle will then be refilled and returned ready for collection by the customer. Payment is required by cash or cheque at the time of order. Customers may be able to arrange paying directly into the bank account of Treading Gently, but this will need to be arranged with the supplier.
After trying Treading Gently, you may wish to buy a second set of bottles. This would allow you to keep one in the cupboard and one for use and refilling, so that you never run out.
Treading Gently greatly appreciates the support of schools, businesses and organisations in allowing Treading Gently to supply their families or employees.
Treading Gently will donate 50 cents from each bottle back to the organisation, so that Environmental Groups, Staff Associations and designated charities benefit from this initiative. On the web site, we plan to have regular updates on the number of bottles refilled.
There are plans to introduce new products into the range. We are currently investigating this – so please keep an eye out for further developments.
